Junking Weekend, January 31-February 1, 2009

My, oh, my! Spring is on my mind! I am attracted to all things floral and gardeny. I just love it all! Want to see what I mean? Well, let me tell you about my finds from a couple weekends ago...

Antique Store #1

Who could not fall in love with this beautiful piece of tolework?
The glory! The patina! Love at first sight! A fabulous candelabra/sconce!

And what about this glorious set of metal flower candlesticks?
Whoa is me! I did not know such feelings could exist! The spring is calling!

One last find that sends my heart a-flutter...a treasure of a birdbath!
Can you hear the angels singing? Melt, snow, melt!

Antique Store #2

First, let me preface this by saying that I have been looking for a pair of chairs for the longest time. No, not two chairs that coordinate but an actual set of matching chairs. Armless. To go in front of the fireplace.

My inspiration...the Pottery Barn Brooks Slipcovered Chair...$729.00 each
I love the style of this chair! And the love the idea of changing out slipcovers. What don't I love? The price! Sorry, Pottery Barn! I still love you though!

My solution...Pair of Armless Bergere Chairs...10% of the price of 2 PB chairs.
The legs are a bit more traditional in style than the PB chairs, but they work in my house. The floral print on these chairs is a bit dated and not my style at all. Will they stay that way? No way!!

Imagine...
Slipcovered in white, or linen, or a beautiful pattern! Such a simple fix will make it the perfect fit...pricewise and stylewise. Uh, wait, I'm not a very good seamstress (though I can now sew on a button all by myself!). Mom...help?!

P.S. Ignore the fireplace! It has plans for a makeover, too.

  1. The candelaabra is my fave, I have two similar chairs but probably smaller, I got from a friend who got them at Ross a discount store in our area. I really like them but the too are in need of a redo.TTFN

  4. Love, love, love the birdbath! The other stuff is cool, but I have an odd affection for old birdbaths, mismatched birdbaths, even broken birdbaths. On your previous post, I cannot believe you came up with 19 uses for that dispenser!! WOW! Your "repurpose brain" was really working over time! *elaine*

  5. Love it all! You did get it all, right? I think you could slipcover those chairs yourself. You strike me as someone who isn't afraid to try any challenge at least once. Go for it! Debbie

  6. LOVE the chairs. You know a few coats of Krylon satin black spray paint on those legs may camouflage the traditional feel. You could even lower the slipcover over them a bit too. Nice finds!

  8. Oooh Amy-I had to come back with a brain fart I had. Have you seen those style of chairs slipcovered but the ties are done around the legs like ballet slippers? How cool would that be? Debbie

  11. Here in TX we actually have some trees and bushes blooming. It's still a bit early, as freeze chances continue into april, but the trees don't seem to know that. Love the metal flowers, and the chairs.

I poked around the thrift shops this weekend and came up empty-handed.
