New Additions to the WhisperWood Cottage Family

N
o, this does not involve any type of baby! Unless that baby's first name is Sony! Y'all know I love my Sony Alpha 100 Digital SLR camera!! The 100 model was the first in the Sony Alpha series. I'm not sure if they even make it any more. When I decide to upgrade my camera someday (no rush, because this one is fabulous!!), it will definitely be in the Sony family.

In the past month or two, a few additions have been made to the camera family here at WWC...a new external flash (above), a new wide-angle lens (above), and a fabulous new Shootsac (below). The flash is Sony but the lens is actually a Sigma EX 10 mm - 20 mm wide-angle zoom lens. It takes some fabulous shots! All of the photos of Sue Whitney's garage sale were taken with it. I'm still experimenting with it, but here are a few more examples of shots with the new lens...

I plan on putting the new flash (above) and the Shootsac (below) to use at the upcoming Junk Bonanza. The flash is needed because the sale is indoors. And the Shootsac is supposed to be great for carrying multiple lenses so that you can change them out quickly. If you've never heard of Shootsac, you MUST check them out!! All the bags are black and then you can buy different covers to change the look. Mine is called "Classic! Splendid."

Please join us in welcoming the new additions to the WWC camera family. No gifts are necessary! :)

  9. You didn't mention if they are boys or girls! Too funny! If I get some of those "additions" for my family, will I be able to take such great shots as you? Girl, I do good just to turn the camera on!

  10. I have not yet been bitten by the wide angle bug. I have one lens that will get down to 18mm, but I mostly shoot at 24mm and above. Don't know why, but wide angle just hasn't appealed to me. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing!

I have a nice flash. But, honestly, I don't enjoy flash photography all that much. Most of the time I would rather grab my 50mm prime with the 1.2 aperture and crank up the ISO to about 1200 than put on the flash. I think it's mostly because I don't really know how to use a flash properly. All I know to do is turn it on and shoot in auto mode. Shameful, I know!

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you do with these new toys. I'm sure you will make a believer out of me!

Oh... I love the concept of the Shootsac. I'm not sure a man can pull that look off, though. Even in black it looks like a purse. It's a shame because it's such a practical accessory for photography. But I don't think I could bring myself to go there. I definitely want to look at yours in Warrenton, though.

    Congrats on your new stuff!
