Mixing Multiple Textures and Finishes in the Guest Bath

Antique iron scale and ribbed white cotton terry towels.

One of the things I like best about our recent guest bath mini makeover is the mix of textures and finishes that were added to the space...

Undulating striae of a beehive.

A second beehive with a rough-hewn texture.

A woven grass frame.

Shiny nickel hardware.

Beadboard wallpaper, wood chair rail, and harlequin pattern shower curtain.

Antique detailed wood frame.

Copper framed clock.

Curvaceous antique ceramic chamber pot with metal and wood handle.

So many finishes and textures add to this room's cottage feel. How do iron, copper, nickel, wood, ceramic, grass, and fabric play together? How do straight lines, curves, harlequin patterns, weaves, and smooth surfaces get along? I can't explain it, but the mix seems to work. Don't you agree?

I'm so intrigued by all the textures you've shown today, but I can't wrap my mind around the beehive... Really looking forward to the 'big reveal'!!

  3. My mother in law liked wasp's nests. She had a few in her house, and they were interesting.

So when can we see this IN COLOR? Don't get me wrong, the black and white is pretty, but I want to see it IN COLOR! Because I know it's going to be good.

  7. I love this makeover. I have been wanting to steal some of these ideas since I first saw your make over post. I love Behr's Swiss Coffee and all the natural elements weave a story. I think the hives are my favorite!
