Iron, Carrera Marble & Office Chairs in the Studio Makeover

I thought I'd give you a little background on the furniture that's chillin' in the center of the new studio space...the marble topped iron table and the two office chairs.

The chairs are...you guessed it!...from Pottery Barn. Now, before you ask me how I afforded two $400 chairs, let me tell you that I didn't. No, they were not gifts. No, I did not steal them. I found them at a discount store called Tuesday Mornings about 5-6 years ago. When I looked underneath one of them and saw the PB label, I was shocked. PB at Tuesday Mornings? Awesome! Because they were marked down to an amazing price, I decided to get both of them. I knew what a great deal I was getting, and I wasn't willing to share it with anyone else!

The two chairs are cushioned with some chair pads from Pier 1. Again...about 5-6 years old.

And the table...a flea market find. The base is an ivory painted iron with a perfect amount of rust detail. It is topped with a round piece of carrera marble. The vendor told me that it was not an original pairing, but I'm quite happy with how she put the base and top together. This table had been used as a side table in the living room for the past couple years. It now has a new purpose and featured place of honor in the studio!

I'll Be in My Studio, Studio...Up, Up in My Studio, Studio...

Just like the doors for the gym, guest spa, and guest suite, the studio needed a door label, too, right?

Vinyl words are pretty easy to apply, but there are few strategies I've learned to make it go smoothly. For the full tutorial on how I applied this one, visit my post at The DIY Club...Amy's Studio Door featuring Design Divas.

The studio has received a bit of an overhaul lately. Nothing earth-shattering. Not even any new paint. Just character and functionality. It continues to receive some much-needed TLC...

BEFORE...                                                           CURRENTLY...

Unlike Sarah, who is tweaking her study in the sweltering heat of Australia, I'm glad the temps here are finally above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Wishing it were a tad warmer to be sure!

Anyone else working on their home office/workspace/studio/study?

Want to add your own vinyl lettering to your door?

P.S. Did anyone else catch the America's Got Talent reference in the title?

Ladder, Hammer, Nail, Vintage Metal Sign...Done!

As promised, here are more photos of the space over the studio closet. And the quick story about its transformation. Here is what it looked like to start...

I first pulled out my trusty antique ladder. Antiques are not just for looking at in this cottage! They get put to use on a daily basis!!

I climbed up with a hammer in one hand in a single nail in the other. I eyeballed the location of the nail to line up with the center of the closet doors. Tap. Tap. Tap. Then I hung an awesome vintage metal sign. The space went from this...

to this...

I bought the sign from my vendor friend, Cindi@The Nature of It, at A Gathering of Friends last year. She always has amazing things that fit with my cottage style!! The theme of the sign actually hints at the many purposes of this space. It's my home office, DIY supply store, and creative studio all in one! It's a perfect fit.

As small as this space is, there is still another side of the room you haven't seen! The makeover continues!

Tole Chandeliers Can Be Mean: DIY Conflict Resolution

We're on step 5 of the studio makeover! Just joining us? Catch up on the whole studio makeover process. We started with the vintage medical cabinets, then added the tole chandelier, brought in a coat rack crafted from a vintage door & wire hooks, and crafted vertical storage out of vintage wire baskets and an antique ladder.

The centerpiece of the room is this vintage tole chandelier in cream, yellow, and green tones. You saw it go up here. Even from underneath, it has great details! But don't let its beauty fool you! This chandy is not so innocent! It has a sassy mean streak!

We ended up hanging it up higher than I originally had planned. Why? After it hit me in the head with those metal prongs about three times in five minutes, it was either lift it up or tear it down! :) That tole takes a toll on your head! Ouch!! Yes, I cried. DIY can be that way, y'know. It's okay now. We've worked out our differences. :)

Now, see that space behind it? Up above the closet? Something must be done! Something simple, yes, but what? Don't worry! I've got it covered! The answer coming up next!
