The Earth, the Moon, and an Elephant

This summer has been pretty laid-back on the DIY front. I've been spending time traveling, resting, reflecting, and being outdoors.

One thing I've done on the home front is to move furniture around. I move it and move it until it feels right. Once something feels right, it usually stays there a long time.

There is one room in my home that has changed more often than any other. It's been used as a home office, a studio, and a study. Right now, it's a room just for me.

It's a conglomeration of my favorite things. Remember my garage sale find elephant?

From a leather settee, to my recently made over IKEA bench, to a Goodwill-found rattan footstool, the furniture is an eclectic mix of styles. Behind the settee is the stenciled metal screen I did a couple years ago.

A garage sale find globe of the earth, with a moon globe suspended from the ceiling.

My Craig's List found campaign dresser, TJ Maxx found Ralph Lauren lamps, and an antique railroad station chalkboard.

Two Ralph Lauren brass boxes from TJ Maxx and a 50-cent metal tin featuring hunting dogs from Goodwill.

Vintage chalk holder used for teaching music. Fill each metal piece with chalk and draw out your music lines.

A mix of blues, greens, golds, and browns.

I have yet to finish off the wall you see above. I have window treatments to put up. I also have an idea for the space to the left of the window. I'll get to it sooner or later. I'm still on Hawaii time...

Mama Needs a New Pair of Running Shoes

I had to tell y'all about the new running shoes I bought the other day. Did you know DSW has a "lightweight running shoe" area? Well, I had never realized that before, but I was totally digging the shoes in that section. Saucony is my die-hard go-to running shoe brand. When I put on these lightweight beauts, their fit and light weight won me over instantly. Sold!

If you are interested, they are the Women's ProGrid Mirage II. It is a minimalist running shoe for slight overpronators (your foot rolls inward due to low arches). After three days of use, I give them two thumbs up! They are a bit more spendy than some people might want to spend, but they are worth every penny to keep my knees and shins happy on those daily runs. Happy running/jogging/walking!
