Woven Textile Wall Hanging

I've been drawn to patterns lately.
This little beauty attracted my attention at Rochester Gold Rush Days this year.
It is actually a purse.

The pattern and colors are beautiful, don't you think?
The tassels add a little whimsy, too.
I decided to use it as a wall hanging in the studio.

I especially like how the colors and pattern complement the pillow I showed you yesterday.

The autumn-izing continues!

Autumn-izing at the Cottage

Yes, I've been autumn-izing. And, yes, I just made up that word.
When it shows up in Webster's dictionary, you know where it originated!

I've added a few autumn-y details to the studio...

A stuffed flannel wiener dog.
Too cute, if you ask me!

A pillow made from an antique woven rug. LOVE it!
It's one of my finds from Oronoco Gold Rush Days this year.

Last, but not least, a vintage leather medicine ball.
A local antique store find from a few years ago.

This is autumn-izing WhisperWood Cottage style!
More autumn-izing coming up!!

Vintage Brass Pendant Light in the Dining Room

Found a new pendant light!
Well, a new-to-me vintage pendant light, anyway! :)
It was from a local shop.

LOVE the brass! The shape. And the chain. Seriously.
Can you see that chain? I've never seen anything like it!

The only problem?
The chain does not have enough length to loop over to the hook in the center of the room. Booooo!
There are a few potential solutions, so I'll be sure to update you when we get it figured out.

It works well in the overall dining room scheme.
Earthy neutrals everywhere.

Do you see the table covering?
It's a white bull hide that we picked up at Round Top several years ago.
Sad to say that we have not been back since, but I'm hoping soon!

It's all part of the fall nesting I've been doing around the cottage.
Not a lot. Just enough to make it cozy before the snow flies! :)

In case you haven't heard...

Organize & Display China in a Unique Way!

Do any of you have heirloom china that rarely gets used? I have a beautiful vintage set that was a gift from my grandmother. It means a lot to me. The floral design and the colors...white, blue, green, and gold...are so soothing. I was trying to find a way to showcase the china in a unique way, while at the same time trying to figure out a way to wrangle up those loose coffee cups and keep them safe.

Why not display them in a glass canister? This one is from Pottery Barn. I don't know what it is about glass (you saw my post yesterday!), but it seems to elevate whatever you put in it. Not elevate as in make taller but elevate as in style wise. You know what I mean? In this case, I simply formed a circle with the coffee cups by nestling the bottom cup into the top of the next one.

This simple solution adds a touch of organization and style to the dining room. It's part of the fall nesting I've been doing around the cottage. Can't wait to show more!

3 Simple Glass Solutions for Bathroom Organization

You know, simple organizational solutions can make even the most mundane objects special. Here at WhisperWood Cottage, I love using clear glass to organize bath objects. It allows me to see what's in the container and allows me to put my favorite vintage pieces to use.
  • SIMPLE SOLUTION 1: Vintage tobacco jar displays cotton balls in the guest bath.
  • SIMPLE SOLUTION 2: An not-so-old bubble bath jar becomes a cotton swab dispenser in the guest bath.
  • SIMPLE SOLUTION 3: Vintage refrigerator jar provides beautiful cotton swab storage in the master bath.

This the best refrigerator jar I've ever found. Many refrigerator jars have the fruit and vegetable design on them, but I adore the plaid pattern on this one. I can use it in any room to hold bit and baubles.

The bonus? A refrigerator jar this size is the perfect size to hold that 500-count pack of cotton swabs!

Vintage Canisters for Modern K-Cup Coffee Storage

With The "Organizing Solutions: Room by Room" Talent Scouting Party underway, I've started paying attention to how things are organized around this here cottage. As I was wiping off the counters earlier today, it struck me that I look at this simple solution every day in the kitchen.

I am not a coffee drinker, but Ron loves to have a cup in the morning. Along with a coffee maker, there comes the task of storing all the things that come along with coffee drinking. Enter this canister set. Before we had the Keurig, the canisters held coffee, sweeteners, filters, etc. Since receiving the Keurig as a gift, the canisters now hold K-cups and whatever else he uses in his coffee.

I love vintage pieces updated for modern use!
