In early March, I picked up this set of bird prints at an auction (to see the other finds, visit
this Junkologie post.) They are original, signed pieces. However, the gold and green frames weren't working for me. Soooo...
I started by taping off the glass. I lightly sanded the frame, hit it with a coat of gray primer, resanded, and gave it a coat or two of black semi-gloss spray paint.
Here is the result...
Here is the BEFORE...and AFTER...
I think it adds a bit of elegance to the pieces. I love a black frame and a white/cream matte! What do you think?
Love them. The black makes the art pop.

Amazing what a little spray paint can do. Those are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love them too! What an easy transformation!
ReplyDeleteHow impressive. They look beautiful! I love before and after posting.
ReplyDeleteI recently pained some frames black too. Some matting also. They turned out great, as did yours. It is amazing what a difference a little paint can make.
ReplyDeleteAmy, they look perfect! It gives them a more updated look. Great call!

Holy cow! What a difference! I have got to get a better eye for that kind of thing! I really didn't think much of the prints at first, but now I realize their frames were bringing them down. So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just amazing how something so simple as changing out frame color will enhance a hum-drum print? You did an excellent job making the look of these prints look more contemporary and up to date! Sue :)
ReplyDeleteI found you sight for the first time today and I think I am in love...
ReplyDeleteThe black frames look fabulous but I am a little confused as to why you went to all the trouble of tape the glass whey you could have just removed the glass before painting.
Ann,
ReplyDeleteI taped them because they were professionally framed. They were nicely sealed with brown paper on the back. I wanted to keep all of that intact, so the taping made it possible. Normally, removing the artwork is the best way to go! :)
