Well, here she be! The fireplace reveal. I apologize for the dark, moody photos in this post. I will be sure to take more on a bright and sunny day so that you can see the details of the fireplace area better. I hope you can get an overall idea of what we were going for.
first an okay corner, then a hole in the wall...

Framed by two cabinets with extra storage, the fireplace and flat panel tv work together to create a focal point. |

Thrifted chairs received handsome new slipcovers (courtesy dear Mom) in an inexpensive fabric with a linen look. |

Lights were added to the cabinetry to spotlight unique collections and favorite finds. |

Shapely vintage fans form a collection in the right-hand cabinet. |

Footed urns from Home Goods & an heirloom German clock are at home in the left-hand cabinet, which also holds those necessary but not so attractive electronic components. |

Blues, whites, and browns make for a summery color palette. |

We still have some things to finish off...a slab of stone for the hearth and one for atop the mantle. I'm think marble...something akin to carrera...white with the black/gray striae. It would coordinate with another marble tabletop that I have in the room. Do you think that would work?
Lovely! It looks even better than I imagined! Love the 'fan club' in the right cabinet.
ReplyDeleteUh huh. NOW you start asking questions. Where were the questions when you were deciding to paint wood??? ha! You know I am playing. This turned out great, Amy! And yes, I do like the idea of carrying over the same look in marble from room to room. After all, the trim all matches the cabinetry throughout, doesn't it? A nice continuity. Congrats on a great looking end result! ~Mindy
ReplyDeleteAPPLAUSE!!!! That's even better than it looked in my head as you posted step after step.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous work! I love how this turned out, congratulations! ~Elisa
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty, Amy. You all did a great job!
ReplyDeleteYou're asking me for advice? Girl...you should be giving classes on room makeovers. This is Fab U Lous! The cabinets give it such an oommph to the ninth!

ReplyDeleteAmy it looks amazing!

ReplyDeleteWOW! You definitely delivered because I really liked the stone fireplace. :) I love it and am soooo inspired. Great job and wonderful work. My hat's off to you and your hubby!! And I really want your vintage fan collection! Or, just one?? :)
ReplyDeleteOh - and I like the idea of natural stone slabs instead of marble. Just my thoughts, which I wouldn't pay heed to at all. *pppfffttt*
ReplyDeleteOh Amy it's....It's SENSATIONAL....You've created a cozy & intimate space crying out for someone to come sit by the fire with a book....I'd be HAPPY to volunteer....hahahahaha....!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing....!
Cheers,
Tamarah :o)
It is so beautiful! I love it all! The way you did the lighting is fantastic. And your collection of vintage fans is awesome. I think the marble you talk of would be perfect!!

Job well done my friend!! It looks fantastic and what a reward for you... hooray for completion!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a transformation. It looks great and I'm sure the extra storage is awesome. Love those chairs with the slipcovers and the fans lined up in the shelves. The only thing I miss is that piece of architectural detail you have sitting on your mantel in the before pic. I love that piece. If you don't need it anymore, you can throw it my way :) It really is a great redo; very calm and relaxing and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe results are amazing! Enjoy all your hard work!

Wow. I love the final result! I'm drooling over your wood ceilings... which is something I want to put in our home. Great pictures as always!
ReplyDeleteAmy, this reno turned out absolutely fantastic! I like how you featured the vintage fans in the shelves. And kudos to your mom for creating the chair covers. You are such an inspiration to get projects done!
