I could see it in the bathroom filled with wonderful items for pampering onesself. Or hung by the front/back door using as it was meant to do....outgoing mail. I have an old wooden recipe box that is by my back door I use to hold mail that I need to take to the post office, or cards I need to deliver....etc.
We've used an old mail box in our house for notes left for each other. It's been fun to see the flag up and see who has note waiting for them. Of course, our mailbox wasn't as cool as this one. I can't tell how big it is but I first thought of a papertowel holder in the kitchen. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Oh... that is so cute! I love the flag!! I have a few old mailboxes around here waiting for a great idea to use them for. Some neat ideas here already... can't wait to see them all! Thanks for sharing the inspiration! :)
Oh Amy it's DELICIOUS....I'd introduce it to 'poly' & pop it on the table in the hallway & use it to corral your keys, purse & wallet when you arrive home at the end of the day.
I LOVE how you guys have flags on your mail boxes to indicate there's somethin' for the Postie to take or that the Postie has been....We don't have our mail collected from our home here....We have to take it to the Post Office....!!
Cheers for now, Tamarah :o)
PS: I'm hopin' for some good light when I get home from work tomorrow so I can take a pic of my GORGEOUS Croquet Set to show you.... :o) !!!
Adorable!!! You could use it on a buffet table with rolled up napkins and silverware or use it for your fall table setting with small gourds in it...I have an old glass one that I use for seasonal center pieces for a quick fix on the table to make it special....what a great cute find.....Susan
Well somebody beat me to mine! I thought of hanging a little antique cloth over the edge and filling it with cutlery for a vintage dinner party :) OR cloth and hot crusty bread :) next to the vintage tureen of beer/cheese soup ohhhh yum!
I like the bathroom idea & the entry way idea. When I saw it - I thought about on a countertop with jars holding silverware & napkins. My Mom always has her silverware out and displayed in cool pieces like that & it makes family dinners a snap :)
I had a similar one that I put up around Valentine's Day. If you fill it with a collection of vintage cards or hearts, that would be a perfect V-day decoration.
I gotta go with Robynne's Nest on this one...I was thinking it would make a really cool mail box. But maybe that's just us... :-) Unless it's too small. I have my home's original mailbox. It is divine...looks like a birdhouse with a roof and everything. But the slot is for those teeny tiny little envelopes that apparently they used back at the turn of the century (1800's to 1900's, that is). Oh well. Just thinking inside of the box.
I have a question for you about your mailbox. I loved the photo of yours so much that I hunted one down and purchased it on ebay. The flag on mine is bent and curves over the mailbox opening. From your photo, it looks like yours was bent and someone straightened it.
Did you straighten it and can you give me any tips on how to do it properly? I am afraid the metal may snap if I dont' handle it carefully.
Lucky you! I've been looking for an old mailbox to hang on my grand daughters playhouse to leave notes and trinkets in!! Because of the curved/rounded bottom, I'd put a couple of rolls of TP in it and hang it in the bathroom near the toilet. I love the writing on the mailbox...and its from Michigan, my Michigan!!

it would look great hanging on a fence with plants/flowers in it! you could just nail some holes in the bottom for drainage.

ReplyDeleteI think the bathroom would be great with magazines or rolled up towels
ReplyDeleteWell, my two ideas are already listed. Besides, whatever you come up with will be AMAZING so you don't need my input! ;)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! You can hang it to put bills and important mail/notes etc or flowers are always pretty!
ReplyDeleteHave fun!

ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous...you could possibly use it as a mail box at your front gate or is that just too out there?
ReplyDeleteI would fill with flowers, pretty cool one!
ReplyDeleteLetters to Santa???
