What has my first project of the year been? Working on this bad boy of a room...the office/workspace/studio. It's been in desperate need of a functionality makeover!
The photo below was after I had cleaned out most of the furniture and chaos that had been collecting around the space. I had initially planned to paint the room, but I wasn't sure if I was ready for that. I thought the current color (Navajo White from Behr) might work. So why change a good thing? I figure I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work, I'll paint later.
I planned on keeping everything in the photo above, but one of the problems in this space has been storage. Well, my merriest of Christmas gifts was a pair of vintage medical cabinets (circa 1950) in original condition. I was told they came from the old Duluth Clinic in Duluth, MN. We picked them up from friend's mother who had been using them to display knick-knacks in the basement for years. We were happy to adopt them!
They found a happy new home in the corner opposite the doorway. What a great focal point when I walk into the room!
One of these bad boys now holds my stash of seldom-used sewing supplies, which had formerly been stuffed into corners of closets, drawers of cabinets, etc. They finally have a happy new home where they might actually get used! They were previously out of sight out of mind. Now, that I can see them, I actually mended a couple pieces of clothing a couple days ago. Shock and awe, I know! (FYI: The vintage sewing basket was my mother's when she was growing up. She gifted it to me a few years ago. Love!)
The other cabinet houses my stash of DIY Club goodies. I love being able to see all my supplies at once! That way I know what I have to work with!

I love those cabinets. I wish they had stuff like that around my area, but alas, it would be considered an antique, therefore; out of my price range.
ReplyDeleteYour cabinets are incredible! How lucky you are to have not only one but a matching pair.
ReplyDeleteThose cabinets are gorgeous! The color is perfect - is that the original color? Lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteMinnesota is the best (I'm a true Minnesotan) and love the clear glass open view on those cabinets. Any thoughts about tearing out that carpet and uping the base and crown moulding? I would leave the fan but remove the light part, it's nice for a slight breeze.
ReplyDeleteThose cabinets are fabulous and I love the color. It is rare to find a matching pair. I also adore the large metal sign...wonderful!
